How long will a consultation take?

Allow 1.5  hours for your  first consultation if you intend to have acupuncture. You can also do a herbal consultation, without acupuncture which will take 1 hour.
Subsequent sessions take less time and you should allow one hour for each session.

Is there any particular information the practitioner should know?
Apart from medical details, you will need to tell the practitioner if you:
  • have a pacemaker or other electrical device fitted.
  • have a bleeding disorder.
  • are taking anti-coagulants, blood thinners or other related medications.
  • are taking any other medications (bring a list to the first consultation).
  • have any known allergies.

How can I facilitate a successful treatment?

Arrive in good time to allow your pulse & other bodily systems to normalize. Do not scrape your tongue the day you come for a treatment. Wear loose, comfortable clothing that you can lie in comfortably. Avoid alcohol several hours before treatment, and minimize your coffee intake before coming. Do not have a heavy meal an hour before acupuncture. If you are taking herbs, take them as scheduled, as the aim is to maintain the level of herbs in your system for them to work effectively.

My friend has the same condition as I do, can I give him/her the herbs that I am taking?

Two people can have the same symptoms but have a different cause for that condition. As a result, the treatment, and therefore the herbal formula recommended may be quite different. Formulas are also different because each person has a different bodily constitution, and the formulation of the prescription given, differs to take that into account. For these reasons, it is not advisable to share herbs with other people, even if they seem to have the same symptoms.

How long will I have to do acupuncture or take herbs?

The time taken to resolve a condition varies greatly and depends on the length of time it has been present. Acute conditions may be resolved in 2-4 sessions of acupuncture and/or herbs for 3-4 days to a few weeks. Chronic conditions will take longer. The rule of thumb is to allow one month for each year you have had the condition. A course of acupuncture is 10 treatments, once or twice a week, depending on the severity of the condition. The progress and situation is then reviewed.

Can I ask some questions to get an idea of what Chinese medicine and acupuncture can do for me before I decide?

You are encouraged to call me at (08) 9840-1155 to talk about your condition and how acupuncture and Chinese medicine may assist you before you even decide to come for a consultation. This is a free, educational service.

This free service which consists of a Tele-health consultation will be made available as long as demand exists.

You will get an idea of how Chinese medicine is used to deal with your condition, but the final diagnosis and treatment can only be made following a face-to-face consultation.
